Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7, & Nokia 8 Sirocco get Android P beta in China

HMD Global has been hard at work supporting their Nokia line of devices by providing timely security patch updates. Not only that, they've made some rather bold promises. The company states that all of their Nokia devices will receive an upgrade to Android P. We've also heard that face unlock is coming for the Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7, and Nokia 8 Sirocco in the coming months. According to a report from LoveNokia, it gets even better: The Nokia 6.1, Nokia 7, and the Nokia 8 Sirocco are now part of the Android P beta program. Unfortunately, this seems to be restricted to China so far.

This isn't the first Android 9.0 beta the company has released, as the Nokia 7 Plus had a build available since Google announced the program back at Google I/O 2018. The other Nokia-branded devices we listed haven't had access to Android P though, so this is definitely exciting for fans of the Nokia lineup. There's no word on whether the other Nokia-branded devices will receive the update, however.

The company is asking users to sign up for the program on Baidu. Users simply have to reply to the post with their mode and network operator along with if they have any previous beta testing experience. Just like the Nokia 7 Plus, it's very likely Android P won't be daily driver worthy so we don't recommend installing it on your only device.

Android P encompasses a huge number of changes, and the latest beta added even more. So far, one device per manufacturer has received the Android P beta, so kudos to HMD Global for breaking the mold by supporting more devices in their lineup.
