Control Head Unit From Phone

I'm considering a purchase of the Joying 10.1" screen head unit (android 5.1) and installing it in my boat. We have a small cuddy up in the front of the boat which is optimum location to install it. The large 10.1" screen will be great in the cabin for entertainment, movies, etc... in poor weather, and it'll be safer in there. I think this will make a great device for the boat.

The only thing with it being in the cabin of the boat, is I can't easily access it while I'm piloting the boat. At first I thought MirrowLink would be my answer by it seems like it is meant to do the opposite - control the phone from the Head Unit (or can it work both ways?). Does any one have any ideas/solutions for something like this? A "remote desktop" type tool for android could work as well... perhaps an app that sends the entire display on the head unit to my phone, and also receives same touch screen actions from the phone??? I'm open to ideas. Just seeing what kind of possibilites are out there. If there isn't a real clean solution I may change directions and place the unit out in the main seating area of the boat.

Thanks for any input.
